The Ficus Project

2017-2018, social-art project
Together with Paulina Mirowska and Anna Siekierska

The goal of this year-long project was a symbolic (re)connection between humans and plants. We started with collecting orphaned houseplants donated for the project or thrown out by people who no longer wanted them. These plants were looked after and used for a live sculpture installation in one of the city’s backyards, where it served as a public bench and a houseplant exchange point. We also organized workshops for juvenile detention center inmates, during which they created (designed and welded) metal planter stands. Afterwards we published a zine recapping the project, which at the same time served as a DIY manual for making planter stands. At the project’s events we collected personal, intimate stories about people’s relationships with their house plants.

Developed as the Fikus Collective together with Anna Siekierska, a sculptress, and Paulina Mirowska, a graphic designer. Funded by a City of Warsaw artistic grant.
